Embarking on long international trips can be tough, especially when you have to figure out the best flight route and tickets. Nobody likes spending hours waiting around in airports, feeling tired and dealing with jet lag. And if you're heading to far-off places, it can be even trickier.
But guess what? Some new airports are popping up in just the right spots to make it easier for travellers like you to reach those beloved but hard-to-reach places. With these new airports, you can say goodbye to shuttle buses and connecting flights, making your trips a whole lot smoother.

Here's the scoop on the latest airports that have recently opened or are in the works. They're all set to make getting to your favorite destinations around the world a whole lot simpler.
In November 2023, Cambodia revealed its latest gem – a brand-new airport in Siem Reap. This airport is a game-changer as it's the gateway to Angkor Wat, the magnificent ancient temple complex designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located just 25 miles east of Angkor Wat, this new airport replaces an older one, now capable of handling larger aircraft for direct international flights. It's a significant boost to accessibility for those wanting to explore Angkor Wat hassle-free.

Greenland is ramping up efforts to expand its airport in Nuuk, the capital city, aimed at bolstering tourism. With a runway twice the size of its predecessor, the upgraded airport will facilitate nonstop flights from North America and Europe, eliminating layovers in smaller towns. If reports are accurate, the new terminal building will be up and running by May 2024, making international travel to Greenland much smoother.

Scheduled to take flight in 2026, the Western Sydney airport, also known as Nancy-Bird Walton airport, offers numerous perks for travelers. Located further inland from Sydney's current airport, it provides a more convenient departure point for locals on the outskirts and serves as a gateway to the nearby Blue Mountains National Park. Furthermore, it eases congestion at Sydney's existing airport, promising a more spacious and accessible travel experience.

Dominica is undergoing a transformative project – its first international airport, slated for completion by 2026. This ambitious endeavor aims to replace the island's current regional airport, accommodating direct flights from the Caribbean, Europe, and North America. It's a significant step towards enhancing accessibility for tourists keen to explore Dominica without layovers.

The charming Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy is getting a boost in accessibility with its own commercial airport. Repurposing a former military and private airport, this new facility promises easy access to the vibrant coastal towns, with initial flights scheduled to start in July 2026. As renovations progress, more airlines and routes are expected to be added, making it even easier to explore this stunning region.

Opening its doors in 2026, Chinchero airport in Peru's Sacred Valley aims to simplify transit for the millions of visitors flocking to Machu Picchu annually. Acting as a direct gateway to the iconic archaeological site, it reduces the need for multiple connections and train rides. However, concerns linger over potential environmental impacts on ancient Incan sites and surrounding ecosystems.
