Train journeys in India just got a lot more convenient! In a move set to delight passengers, IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has rolled out a new feature that allows travelers to add meals even after booking their tickets, a significant change from the previous system where meals had to be pre-selected at the time of booking.
Earlier, missing the meal option while booking meant you had to manage food on your own, often leading to higher expenses and limited options.
Now, thanks to the latest IRCTC app update, even if you forget to add a meal while booking your ticket, you can modify your order later and still receive freshly cooked food on your journey.
This enhancement is especially useful for passengers booking in a hurry or through agents. With the new flexibility, you can make changes to your booking, such as adding or removing meal options, right up until the last moment before your journey.

IRCTC has also strengthened its partnerships with top food delivery platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, EatSure, and Pizza Hut, ensuring passengers have access to a wide range of quality meals, snacks, and beverages delivered right to their seats.
If you book a ticket without selecting a meal, IRCTC will now send a reminder notification or message prompting you to add food via the app.
A direct link in the message will allow you to customize your booking, making it seamless and user-friendly.
All passengers, including those whose tickets are booked by agents, can use this feature via the IRCTC app or website.
Another welcome change: the long-standing complaint about overpriced tea and coffee on trains is being addressed.
IRCTC has removed the additional charges on these beverages, making your cup of tea or coffee more affordable.
While this meal update is a big leap forward, food pricing onboard remains a concern. Passengers continue to hope for more pocket-friendly options in the future.
But with the IRCTC taking steps to improve food quality, variety, and flexibility, it's a promising sign of more passenger-friendly reforms ahead.
Whether you’re a frequent traveler or an occasional passenger, IRCTC’s meal update ensures greater comfort, more control, and better food options, even if you book your ticket in a rush.
So next time you forget to add a meal, relax, you can now fix it with just a few taps on the app!
