The Philippines doesn’t arrive with a passport stamp; it begins in the quiet of a living room, surrounded by documents, bookings, and a hunger for turquoise.
For Indian travellers, before the white sand and island hammocks, comes a more grounded journey, the visa.
It may not feel romantic, but it is necessary. And if done with care, it sets the tone for everything that follows. After all, even paradise demands preparation.
Yes, Indian passport holders must apply for a tourist visa (9A) before entering the Philippines, unless they meet specific exceptions.
Indian citizens can enter visa-free for 14 days only if they meet all of the following conditions:
Hold a valid visa or permanent residency for the USA, UK, Schengen area, Japan, Canada, Singapore, or Australia
Hold a valid return/onward flight ticket
Have a passport valid for at least 6 months
Can show proof of sufficient funds for the trip
If you don’t meet all of the above? No problem. You can still apply for a Philippines Tourist Visa (9A) in advance.
This is the most commonly issued visa for Indian travellers visiting for leisure, family visits, or short-term purposes.
It is a single-entry visa valid for three months from the date of issue and allows a stay of up to 59 days.
Extensions can be applied for after arrival in the Philippines at the Bureau of Immigration.
Think of your application as your first conversation with the Philippines. Here’s what you need to say, in paper:
Downloaded and filled from the official website of the Philippines Embassy (New Delhi) or Consulate (Mumbai)
All fields must be completed accurately, including hotel address and flight dates
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Minimum one blank page for visa stamp
Two recent passport-sized colour photographs
White background, front-facing, no headgear (unless for religious reasons)
Briefly explain the purpose of your visit, your planned itinerary, and your dates of travel
Include your contact information and intention to return to India
Return flight tickets (confirmed or tentative)
Hotel reservations or an invitation letter from a friend or relative if staying with them
Bank statement for the last 6 months, signed and sealed by the bank (₹1.5 lakh minimum balance recommended)
Income Tax Returns/Form 16 of the past 2 years
Employment certificate/Leave approval letter if employed
For students, a valid student ID card and letter from the institution
Aadhar or PAN card photocopy
Especially helpful if you have past visas or international travel history
Travel insurance (not mandatory but strongly recommended)
Itinerary with activities and places you plan to visit
Depending on where you live, you’ll submit your application at either the Embassy or the Consulate.
Address: 50-N Nyaya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110021
Submission Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Check the embassy’s website for appointment requirements
Accepts applications from Western India (including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, etc.)
Application may be accepted via authorized agents (listed on their site)
Note: At this time, VFS Global does not process Philippines visas. Use only the embassy or consulate or their officially approved agencies.

Single-entry tourist visa fee: Approximately ₹3,000 (subject to change based on currency conversion)
Payment method: Usually by demand draft or in cash, check with the embassy for the latest mode
Processing time: 7–10 working days
Recommendation: Apply at least 3 weeks before your intended departure
You won’t receive daily updates or notifications. The waiting period is quiet. But it is also a time of planning and dreaming.
Use this time to:
Create your Philippines travel playlist
Finalize your packing list and wardrobe for the tropics
Explore offbeat islands you didn’t know existed (Siargao, Apo Island, Camiguin)
Once your visa is approved, you or your agent can collect the passport from the submission center. Double-check the visa stamp for accuracy before making final travel arrangements.

When you finally land in Manila or Cebu, carry these:
Printed visa copy (affixed in passport)
Passport (valid for 6 months beyond stay)
Return flight tickets
Hotel bookings or invitation letter
Proof of funds (in case requested)
Travel insurance (recommended)
Be prepared to answer a few simple questions like “How long are you staying?” or “Where are you staying?” Speak with confidence, and smile, it’s the final gateway before the paradise.
A visa doesn’t just open borders, it unlocks dreams. And though the paperwork may seem mundane, it holds the power to transport you to a country of over 7,000 islands, each with its own story, rhythm, and flavour.
For Indian travellers, the Philippines isn’t just a tropical escape, it’s a reminder that beauty rewards the prepared.
So gather your documents, book that ticket, and say yes to the slow, sweet, island way of life.
Because somewhere between the consulate and the coast, your next great story is waiting to begin.
