Indian travelers planning a trip to Japan should be aware of a recent policy change at the Healing Pavilion, an interactive zoo in Tochigi Prefecture. The zoo has banned solo male visitors after incidents of harassment toward its female owner and guests. The director, known as Misa Mama, announced the decision on social media, stating that unaccompanied men had approached her and female patrons with unwanted flirtation, causing significant stress.
This policy has ignited online debate. Some individuals criticize it as blatant gender discrimination, arguing that many men simply wish to enjoy the company of animals alone and mean no harm. Conversely, supporters commend the move, emphasizing the importance of protecting female staff and visitors from harassment.

In a bid to maintain a safe, family-friendly environment, the zoo’s management has decided that solo male visitors will now need to be accompanied by a friend or family member. The decision came after a series of incidents where a few unaccompanied visitors caused discomfort to the zoo’s female owner and other guests. One of the amused yet thoughtful voices on social media summed it up by saying, “Looks like my travel buddy just became even more essential; guess my favorite stuffed toy might need a sidekick if I ever venture alone!” Another traveler mused, “I understand the need for safety, and if it means a more peaceful day with adorable pigs, cats, and sheep, I’m all for it.”
