Thailand has approved a revised visa policy that will allow Indian passport holders to enter the country visa-free for stays of up to 30 days, offering welcome relief to Indian travellers planning holidays to Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and other popular Thai destinations.
The decision comes after months of uncertainty around Thailand's visa arrangements for Indian tourists. Under the revised framework approved by the Thai Cabinet in July 2026, India will be included among the countries eligible for a 30-day visa exemption, replacing the previous 60-day visa-exemption framework.
Thailand introduced a 60-day visa-exemption scheme covering Indian passport holders in 2024. However, the Thai government approved changes to its visa system in 2026, reducing the maximum visa-free stay for eligible nationalities.
Under the new framework, 59 countries and territories will receive a 30-day visa exemption, including India. Thailand will also introduce a separate 15-day visa-exemption category for two countries, while three countries will remain eligible for Visa on Arrival.
For Indian travellers, this means Thailand remains a convenient option for short holidays, while the maximum visa-free stay will be shorter than the earlier 60-day allowance.

Indian passport holders will be able to travel to Thailand for tourism without applying for a visa in advance, subject to the final implementation of the revised rules.
The new policy is particularly useful for travellers planning:
Bangkok city breaks
Phuket beach holidays
Krabi and island trips
Pattaya vacations
Family holidays
Honeymoon trips
Indian weddings and group travel
Short business and incentive trips, where permitted under the applicable entry rules
Thailand remains one of the most popular international destinations for Indian travellers because of its relatively short flight times, wide range of accommodation and strong air connectivity from India.
This is an important point for travellers.
The Thai Cabinet has approved the revised framework, but the new rules do not automatically take effect immediately. Thailand's Tourism Authority said the relevant Ministry of Interior announcements must first be published in the Royal Gazette. The measures will then take effect 15 days after publication.
Until the new measures officially come into force, existing entry conditions remain applicable. Travellers should therefore check the latest requirements before booking or travelling.
Thailand says the changes are aimed at improving immigration management, strengthening screening and preventing misuse of visa privileges.
The revised system follows a “one country, one entitlement” approach, meaning each country or territory will fall under a single entry category instead of having overlapping visa-exemption and Visa on Arrival privileges.
The government also wants to balance easier travel with national security, economic interests and international relations.
The policy change highlights the importance of the Indian tourism market to Thailand.
According to Tourism Authority of Thailand officials cited by Indian Express, Thailand had welcomed around 1.3 million Indian visitors by July 18, 2026, making India one of Thailand's largest source markets. Tourism officials expect Indian arrivals could reach around 2.7 million in 2027, supported by increased air connectivity from smaller Indian cities.
Thailand is particularly popular among Indian leisure travellers, honeymooners, families and wedding groups.
Even with visa-free entry, travellers should not assume that a visa exemption means they can enter Thailand without meeting other immigration requirements.
Before travelling, Indian tourists should check:
Passport validity and entry requirements
Confirmed return or onward travel
Hotel or accommodation details
Sufficient funds for the trip
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) requirements
Current immigration regulations
Any updated health or customs requirements
Travellers should also verify the latest official rules shortly before departure because the implementation date and entry requirements can change.
The revised 30-day visa exemption is expected to make Thailand more attractive to Indian tourists while giving travellers greater clarity after months of uncertainty over the country's visa policy.
Although the new framework reduces the previous visa-free stay from 60 days to 30 days, most holidaymakers planning a typical one- or two-week Thailand trip will not be affected by the shorter limit.
For Indian travellers planning their next international holiday, Thailand's beaches, islands, nightlife, shopping and cultural attractions remain easily accessible once the revised visa-exemption rules officially come into force.
Bottom Line: Thailand has approved 30-day visa-free entry for Indian passport holders, but travellers should wait for the revised measures to officially take effect following publication in Thailand's Royal Gazette. Until then, existing entry rules remain applicable.
