Heavy rain alert in Kerala: What should tourists be careful of?

The Southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on May 31 this year, with the state already experiencing heavy rainfall across most districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in isolated areas until Tuesday. Strong winds are also forecasted on various days, and the disaster management authority has advised against venturing into the sea until further notice. Kerala's Weather Update

An orange alert has been issued for Palakkad and Malappuram districts on Saturday (May 18) and for Idukki, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha on Sunday (May 19). Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts will be on orange alert on May 20 and 21, with expected rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm per hour. Strong winds of 30 to 40 km per hour are anticipated on May 19 and 20. A yellow alert has also been issued for several districts, and the State Disaster Management Authority advises against sea activities until further notice due to adverse weather conditions.
