"Do Not Come to Manali and Solang": Social Media Buzzes with Warnings as Snowfall Strands 2,000 Vehicles

If you're dreaming of a snow-filled escape to Himachal Pradesh’s Manali and Solang Valley, it might be time to hit pause on those plans. Heavy snowfall has blanketed the region, leaving over 2,000 vehicles stranded, and prompting social media users to sound the alarm.

On Instagram, Chlucky Tyagi, a stranded tourist, shared a chilling (pun intended) video from the Solang Valley-Atal Tunnel route. The video shows a long line of vehicles stuck on icy roads, with no sign of movement. In his urgent message to would-be visitors, Tyagi exclaimed, “Koi bhi mat aana!” (Do not come!)

Snow, Traffic, and Chaos in Manali & Solang

Tyagi’s ordeal began at 10 am and, by the time of recording his video late into the night, there was still no clarity on when he and others might be able to leave. Even local authorities weren't spared; Tyagi pointed out that a Sub-Divisional Magistrate's (SDM) vehicle was stuck in the same gridlock.

The region has been battered by heavy snowfall for days, creating treacherous road conditions. Landslides and ice accumulation have made navigating the picturesque hills nearly impossible. According to Himachal Police, over 1,800 vehicles have already been evacuated, but nearly 200 remain stranded.

A Rescue Mission Amid the Chill

Speaking to ANI, Manali DSP KD Sharma confirmed that a rescue operation was launched to assist those trapped. "We’ve managed to evacuate a majority of the vehicles, but some are still stranded due to severe weather," Sharma reported. Travelers have been urged to remain patient as authorities work to clear the roads.

What’s the Weather Looking Like?

The good news: the weather is expected to remain dry across Himachal Pradesh on December 30 and 31, giving authorities a window to manage the chaos. But starting January 1, light snowfall and rain could return to the mid and high hills, potentially making matters worse.

Social Media: A Warning Bell for Tourists

Social media has become a crucial tool during this crisis, with users like Tyagi sharing real-time updates from the ground. His message has resonated with many, urging travelers to rethink their plans and avoid adding to the region’s woes.

One comment under his post read, “This is not the winter wonderland you think it is! Stay safe and wait for the weather to clear.” Another chimed in, “Nature is beautiful, but safety comes first. Thanks for the warning, bro.”

Planning a Trip? Think Again.

While the snowy vistas of Manali and Solang Valley may look like the perfect winter getaway, the current situation is far from ideal. The combination of heavy snowfall, stranded vehicles, and road blockages has made travel in the region a hazardous venture.

So, for now, it's probably best to cozy up at home with a hot cup of coffee and admire the snowy landscapes of Himachal Pradesh from afar; through Instagram.
