A sudden cloudburst over the Kheer Ganga catchment on August 5, 2025, unleashed a powerful flash flood in Dharali village, Uttarakhand, a key stop along the Gangotri pilgrimage route. The deluge swept away homes, shops, hotels, and key road links, leaving the once-bustling village almost unrecognizable.

As of the latest updates, at least four people have been confirmed dead, while dozens remain missing, with estimates suggesting up to 50 people unaccounted for. Rescue teams, including SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, Army units, and local authorities, are on-site using drones, sniffer dogs, and heavy machinery to search for survivors.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Uttarkashi and neighboring districts until August 10, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert also remains in effect for Dehradun, Nainital, and other regions, increasing the risk of further landslides and flash floods.
