Passport Seva Portal to Be Temporarily Unavailable for Maintenance; Appointments to Be Rescheduled

If you’re planning to apply for a new passport or renew an existing one, here’s something you need to know. The Passport Seva portal, which you probably use to book your passport appointments, is going offline for five days. Starting from 8:00 PM IST on 29th August 2024, until 6:00 AM IST on 2nd September, the online portal will be out of service due to some scheduled maintenance work.

What does this mean for you?

Well, you won’t be able to book any new appointments during this time. If you already had an appointment booked for this period, don’t worry - it’ll be rescheduled, and you’ll get a notification with the new date and time.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) says this is all part of their regular upkeep to keep things running smoothly. They’ve assured everyone that they’ve got a solid plan to handle the rescheduling, so you shouldn’t face any major hassles.

For those not familiar, the Passport Seva portal is where you go online to book an appointment at your nearest passport office. On the day of your appointment, you show up with your documents, get them verified, and then wait for the police verification. After that, your passport will be on its way to you. You can choose the regular process, where it takes 30-45 working days, or go for the Tatkaal service if you need it faster.

If your appointment was set for the 30th of August, keep an eye out for an update from the Passport Seva team with your new appointment details. It’s a bit of a hassle, but these maintenance breaks are necessary to keep the system working efficiently for everyone.
