SRINAGAR, Dec 27: The mesmerizing city has officially ushered in the winter season with its first snowfall, turning the landscape into a stunning winter wonderland.
Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley experienced their first snowfall of the season, ending a prolonged dry spell. Tourists and locals rejoiced as snow blanketed the city, including Dal Lake and other scenic spots, creating a stunning winter landscape.
While the snowfall brought much-needed relief, it also disrupted key routes, including the Mughal Road, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road, and Kokernag-Marwa-Warwan Road due to heavy accumulation.
Temperatures across the region remained freezing, with Srinagar recording a low of -7.3°C, significantly below the seasonal average. Iconic destinations like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Kupwara also reported subzero temperatures.
Weather forecasts predict more snow at higher altitudes, while conditions are expected to remain dry from December 31, with light snow possible in early January. Despite the biting cold, the snowfall has boosted the region’s winter charm, attracting visitors eager to capture unforgettable moments amidst Kashmir's snowy splendor.
Here’s everything you need to know about this enchanting season in Srinagar and why you should plan your visit right away:
