Flying This Navratri? Air India Express Is Bringing Festive Flavours to the Sky

Because festival plans are complicated enough without having to figure out what to eat at 35,000 feet.

Navratri is all about devotion, celebrations, family gatherings and, of course, food that follows the rules of your fast. But what happens when your travel plans fall right in the middle of the festivities? Airport food suddenly becomes a little more complicated, and finding something that fits your fasting routine can turn into a mission of its own.

Air India Express has a festive solution for passengers travelling this Navratri. The airline has introduced a special Navratri meal onboard, featuring familiar fasting favourites such as Sabudana Khichdi, Vrat Sheera and a fresh fruit platter.

So, if you’re flying to visit family, heading home for the festivities or squeezing in a holiday between celebrations, this is one travel update worth knowing about.

Your Navratri Thali, With a Window Seat

Let’s be honest: airline food and festive food aren't usually the first things we imagine together. But this seasonal menu brings a little Indian festival spirit into the flying experience.

Here’s what passengers can look forward to:

  • Sabudana Khichdi: A classic Navratri favourite for those who include it in their fasting menu.

  • Vrat Sheera: Something sweet to make the journey feel a little more festive.

  • Fresh fruit platter: A light, refreshing addition for the flight.

It’s a simple menu, but that is part of its appeal. When you're travelling during a festival, having a meal option planned in advance can make the journey much easier.

One small reminder, though: fasting rules differ from household to household. If you follow specific dietary restrictions during Navratri, check the ingredients and preparation details before ordering.

The Catch: You’ll Need to Book It Before Boarding

There’s a little planning involved, so don’t wait until you’re settling into your seat to look for the special meal.

According to the announcement, the Navratri meal can be pre-booked through the Air India Express website or mobile app. The reported booking deadline for eligible flights is 20 October 2026.

Here’s what to keep in mind:

Flight type

Pre-booking cut-off

Domestic flights

Up to 12 hours before departure

International flights

Up to 18 hours before departure

The special meal is reported to be available across the airline’s network of 48 domestic and 16 international destinations. However, availability may depend on the specific flight, so check your booking before making plans around the menu.

Our advice: Sort out your meal when you book your ticket or review your flight details. It’s one less thing to worry about on travel day.

More Than Just Another Airline Meal

Food is often one of the first things we miss when we're away from home during a festival. The decorations and celebrations might be waiting at the destination, but the familiar flavours are what make the occasion feel complete.

That’s what makes seasonal menus interesting. They acknowledge that passengers aren't just travelling from one airport to another; they're travelling for weddings, festivals, family visits and all the little occasions that matter.
