On December 30, 2023, Ayodhya witnessed a momentous occasion as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, also known as Ayodhya Airport. This event is etched in history due to the airport's profound religious significance, resembling the long-awaited Ram Mandir.

Modeled after the iconic temple, the airport's terminal building mirrors traditional temple architecture, creating a harmonious blend of modern facilities and cultural symbolism. Here are some noteworthy details about the Ayodhya airport:
Convenient Location: Situated a mere 15 km from the city center, the airport ensures easy accessibility for travelers.
Phase 1 Development: In its initial phase, the international airport boasts a 6500 sq m terminal, with plans to accommodate over 10 lakh passengers annually.
Aesthetic Design: Combining contemporary amenities with thematic decor representing Lord Rama's life, the airport offers a unique and spiritually enriched experience.
Sustainability Initiatives: Ayodhya Airport emphasizes environmental responsibility, incorporating features like insulated roofing, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, fountains, sewage treatment plants, and a solar power plant.
Cultural Art Integration: Local art, paintings, and murals depicting Lord Ram's life adorn the airport, fostering a sense of community and heritage. The extended runway facilitates operations for A-321/B-737 type aircraft.
Aerodrome License: Endorsed by the DGCA, the airport holds a 2200 m runway suitable for various operations, including day and night activities and low visibility conditions exceeding 550 m.
Inaugural Flights: IndiGo has announced the first flight from Delhi to Ayodhya on December 30, 2023, with commercial services scheduled to commence on January 6, 2024. Tri-weekly flights from Ahmedabad to Ayodhya will follow from January 11.
Expansion Plans: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has outlined expansion plans for the airport, with the second phase set to cover an extensive 50,000 sq m.
Facilities: According to AAI, Ayodhya Airport is equipped with essential amenities, including 9 check-in counters, 3 conveyor belts, and 5 X-BIS machines.
Railway Station Inauguration: Simultaneously, the inauguration of Ayodhya Dham railway station took place on the same day, featuring a temple architecture facade and airport-like amenities in the interior.
This dual celebration of the airport and railway station signifies a remarkable step forward for Ayodhya, blending cultural significance with modern infrastructure. The Maharishi Valmiki International Airport stands not only as a gateway for travelers but also as a symbol of cultural pride and architectural marvel. With its architectural homage to the revered Ram Mandir and thematic representations of Lord Rama's life, the Ayodhya Airport stands as a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of the region. The commitment to sustainability, evidenced by environmentally conscious features, reflects a responsible approach to infrastructure development.
