With the festive season right around the corner, holiday travel plans are already taking shape, and so are the inevitable price hikes on airline tickets. Whether it’s heading home to celebrate with family or taking a much-needed vacation, the rush for flights is on.
But don’t worry just yet; the government is stepping in to keep a close eye on those ticket prices, ensuring you don’t break the bank while getting to your destination. As airlines gear up for the holiday surge, travelers are also making smart moves by booking early to score great deals.
With the festive season around the corner, holiday travel demand is set to skyrocket, often leading to a spike in airline ticket prices. To address these concerns, the Indian government has assured citizens that it will keep a close watch on fare hikes, especially during this busy period.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the government is actively monitoring airline prices, aiming to ensure that travelers are not burdened with excessive costs during the holidays. “We don’t want ticket prices to rise excessively when people are heading home for the festivals,” Naidu said.

The festive period, which includes Dussehra and Diwali, is known for higher demand in domestic travel. This surge often leads to a corresponding increase in airline fares. While the government is monitoring the situation, it has emphasized that airlines will not be forced to keep fares unchanged but will ensure passengers do not face undue inconvenience.
Despite these efforts, airlines have seen a natural rise in fares, especially for last-minute bookings, as the demand outweighs supply.
According to Booking.com, Indian travelers seeking long weekend getaways during the festive season continue to favor destinations like London, Dubai, Singapore, Paris, and Baku. These cities remain top choices for extended holiday breaks, offering a blend of culture, shopping, and leisure that appeals to Indian tourists.

With Dussehra and Diwali holidays fast approaching, travelers are booking their flights 60-90 days in advance to lock in lower prices and take advantage of special discounts from airlines and hotels. Indiver Rastogi from Thomas Cook (India) noted that fares are currently lower than peak summer pricing, further encouraging early bookings.
This forward planning is especially seen among value-conscious travelers aiming to avoid the last-minute price surge as holiday dates draw near.
