Indian travellers planning a holiday to Thailand can breathe a sigh of relief. The Thai government has confirmed that Indian passport holders will continue to enjoy visa-free entry, although the maximum duration of stay has now been reduced to 30 days. The decision comes after Thailand reconsidered its earlier proposal to end visa-free access for Indian tourists following a noticeable decline in visitor arrivals from India.
The latest move is expected to encourage tourism while introducing a shorter stay period to better regulate long-term visits.
Earlier this year, Thailand considered withdrawing visa-free access for Indian citizens as part of broader immigration reforms. However, tourism officials found that even the proposal created uncertainty among travellers, leading to a drop in bookings from India—one of Thailand's largest international tourism markets.
To support tourism and maintain strong visitor numbers, the government has decided to continue offering visa-free entry for Indian passport holders.

While visa-free entry remains in place, one important rule has changed:
Visa requirement: No visa required for Indian passport holders.
Maximum stay: Reduced from 60 days to 30 days.
Purpose of travel: Tourism and short leisure visits.
Implementation: The revised policy will take effect after the official publication process, while current eligible travellers retain their existing permissions.
Thailand's tourism industry contributes significantly to the country's economy, and Indian tourists represent one of its fastest-growing visitor segments.
Officials stated that the revised policy aims to:
Continue attracting Indian tourists.
Prevent misuse of long visa-free stays.
Improve immigration management and security.
Balance tourism growth with better border controls.
If you're planning a trip to Thailand, keep these points in mind:
Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months.
Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before travelling if required.
Carry confirmed return flight tickets.
Keep hotel booking confirmations ready.
Be prepared to show proof of sufficient funds if requested by immigration officials.
The continuation of visa-free entry is welcome news for Indian travellers, especially those planning short vacations to destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui.
However, travellers planning longer stays should note that they will now need to complete their itinerary within the new 30-day visa-free period or explore appropriate visa options if they intend to stay longer.
Thailand's decision to retain visa-free entry for Indians reinforces the country's commitment to welcoming one of its most important tourism markets. Although the permitted stay has been reduced to 30 days, the policy still makes Thailand one of the easiest and most convenient international destinations for Indian travellers.
If you're planning a trip, check the latest entry requirements before departure and ensure your travel documents are in order for a smooth immigration experience.
